Feathers are nothing new in the fashion world. We can travel back nearly 100 years to the glamorous flapper era of the roaring 20s, when dresses were adorned with feathers and women draped themselves in feather boas. The feather trend made a comeback during the 1970s as disco and glam rock dominated the music charts in clothing items such as brightly colored jackets made of marabou feathers. Feathers were even seen on the runway as recently as 2013, when designers such as Alexander McQueen and Louis Vuitton incorporated them into their clothing, bags, jewelry and other accessories.
HauteTrader noticed the next generation of fashionable feathers when Prada unveiled their Fall 2017 collection back in February at Milan Fashion Week. Their feather-trimmed skirts, dresses, hoods and hats were the talk of fashion blogs everywhere. Since then, Prada has showcased several feathery looks to die for on magazine covers around the world including Elle UK, Marie Claire’s Czech edition, and Vogue Spain which featured supermodel Bella Hadid on the cover.
While we can all agree that feathers work on the runway, how does that translate to our everyday wear? HauteTrader has some tips to make sure you belong on Fifth Avenue and not Sesame Street! Whether you’re headed to the office or out for a night on the town, here are a few different ways to incorporate feathers into your fall wardrobe.
You’ll find no shortage of feather-trimmed dresses and skirts this fall from designers such as David Koma and Miu Miu. You can find pieces that add a vintage-chic style to your wardrobe made of silk with an empire waist cut. If you’re looking for a more fresh and contemporary ensemble, check out dresses like this adorable light pink number from Alice and Olivia with ostrich feathers.
If you’re feeling the trend but only want to add a hint of feathers to your everyday ensemble, look into accessories that utilize them as an embellishment. Prada and Lavin are two designers who pull this off brilliantly with their ultra-feminine bags and shoes. Gucci, Tory Burch, and Christian Louboutin are also on our go-to feathers list here at HauteTrader. In fact, they’re so popular that many of their feathered items are sold out at retail stores that carry high-end designer fashion.
